The 7th Olive Oil Quality Competition Awards Were Presented in Muğla
The 7th Olive Oil Quality Competition Awards Ceremony, organized under the auspices of the Muğla Governor’s Office, was held at the Atatürk Cultural Center of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University with a large turnout. The ceremony was attended by Muğla Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık, along with numerous dignitaries, producers, and industry representatives.
Reşit Özer, Chairman of the MİTSO Board of Directors, delivered the opening remarks. He noted that the quality and brand value of Milas olive oil have been rising year after year, and expressed that the successes achieved by producers on national and international platforms are a source of pride for Milas. Reşit Özer emphasized that Milas has become a major hub in the olive and olive oil sector, stressing the critical importance of supporting high-quality production and products with geographical indications.
In his speech, Reşit Özer provided information not only about Milas Olive Oil, which holds a European Union geographical indication registration, but also about Milas Oil-Rich Olives and Milas Çekişke Olives, noting that Milas ranks among the districts in Turkey held up as examples for its products with geographical indications. Özer stated that efforts are ongoing to protect, brand, and establish a stronger presence in the global market for the values Milas possesses, adding that geographically indicated products provide significant contributions to both producers and the regional economy.
During the ceremony, awards were presented to the winning producers, and producers from Milas who participated in the competition were awarded premium, gold, silver, and bronze quality certificates. The successes achieved in the competition once again demonstrated the quality standards of Milas olive oil.
The Milas Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MİTSO) also showcased Milas’s geographically indicated products at the promotional booth it set up during the event. At the booth prepared by MİTSO, a total of 14 geographically indicated products reflecting Milas’s gastronomic and cultural heritage were displayed. The booth featured European Union-certified geographically indicated products such as Milas Olive Oil, Milas Oil-Rich Olives, Milas Çekişke Olives, and Milas Tepsi Böreği, among other local products, and provided information to participants.
While the stand, which attracted significant interest from visitors, highlighted Milas’s olive and olive oil culture, the contributions of geographically indicated products to the regional economy and promotion were also shared.
