OLIVE PRUNING TRAINING WAS HELD…
Olive tree pruning training was given to olive producers in the greenhouse area belonging to Milas Municipality in Kırcağız Neighborhood of Milas.
MİTSO Chairman of the Board Reşit Özer said; “If we want our olives and olive oil to be bought and sold at the value they deserve, we should definitely participate in such trainings instead of saying I already know”.
With the joint work of Milas Municipality, Milas Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MİTSO), and Olive Research Institute, olive pruning training was held for olive producers living in Milas.
“HARVEST SHOULD BE DONE EARLY THEN
PRUNING AND MAINTENANCE
SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT, ALSO OLIVE TREES IN FLAT AREAS MUST DEFINITELY
BE IRRIGATED”
Experts from the Olive Research Institute pointed out that the time for olive harvest and tree maintenance has changed due to climate changes and said; “Memecik type olive trees here are usually located in steep terrains. However, both olive harvest and tree maintenance should not be left to late times. Some producers can postpone the pruning event due to the risk of agricultural frost, but in the last 10 years, there have been olive trees affected by this kind of frost event in only one place in Turkey.
Early care and pruning are important. Both harvest, pruning, and fertilization processes should be completed as soon as possible, especially before the new year. In this way, there will be an opportunity to get products next year as well. In addition, trees in steep terrains, mountainous areas may not, but olive trees located on flat ground must definitely be irrigated, so the yield obtained and the quality of the product will definitely increase. Of course, fertilization is also important... When there are too many branches, flowers bloom sparsely, and the product is naturally sparse on trees. Therefore, dense branches should be thinned by pruning appropriately.”
