A Shared Vision for Milas Tourism: Visit to the Hekatomnos Monumental Tomb and Tourism Development Meeting
In order to more effectively integrate Milas' historical and cultural heritage with tourism, a comprehensive visit and evaluation program was carried out in collaboration between the TÜRSAB Bodrum Regional Representative Board and the Milas Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
TÜRSAB Bodrum Regional Representative Board Chairman Enver Kantarmış and board members Barbaros Güneş, Ozan Muammer Aydemir, Vefa Pisi, and Erçin Özen visited the Hekatomnos Monumental Tomb, which is on the UNESCO Tentative World Heritage List, hosted by Milas Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board Chairman Reşit Özer. During the visit, topics such as Milas' deep-rooted history dating back to the Ancient Carian Civilization, the preservation of its cultural values, and the stronger integration of these values into tourism routes were discussed.
The inspections included an assessment of the work that could be done to ensure that the Hekatomnos Monumental Tomb features more prominently in cultural tours and thematic routes and to make it a center of attraction for domestic and foreign tourists. It was emphasized that Milas, home to 27 ancient cities, has high potential in terms of cultural tourism.
As part of the program, a tourism and tour development meeting was also held in Milas, hosted by the Milas Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the participation of travel agencies operating in Milas. The meeting was attended by Enver Kantarmış, Chairman of the TÜRSAB Bodrum Regional Representative Board, and members of the board, as well as Reşit Özer, Chairman of the MİTSO Board of Directors, and Soner Çamlıbelen, Treasurer of the Board of Directors.
The meeting addressed the inclusion of Milas' ancient cities, archaeological sites, rural neighborhoods, and natural areas in day trips and overnight tour programs, as well as the creation of cultural, gastronomic, nature, and village tours and integrated sea-culture tour routes. It was stated that tourism activity in the district could be increased with special tour packages directed to Milas from Bodrum and surrounding destinations.
Travel agency representatives shared their views and suggestions on more effectively promoting Milas' historical heritage and local cuisine, increasing guided tours, and implementing sustainable tourism models through inter-institutional cooperation.
It is hoped that the visits and meetings will contribute significantly to making Milas a more visible and preferred destination for cultural tourism.
