Milas is hosting an important meeting in the field of history and culture. The 16th Karia, Karians and Mylasa Symposium started today at Milashan Hotel. The main theme of this year's symposium, organized in honor of Prof. Dr. Zeynep Mercangöz and Prof. Dr. Riet Van Bremen, was "Urbanization in Karia, Life in Cities and Countryside".

The symposium, attended by scientists from the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, and many European countries as well as Turkey, once again revealed the historical and cultural importance of Milas on an international scale.

Making the opening speech, Milas Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman of the Board Reşit Özer drew attention to the archaeological and cultural values of Milas and emphasized the importance of the symposium for the region. Özer also underlined the necessity of organizing the 17th Karia, Karians and Mylasa Symposium, touching upon the importance of Milas taking its deserved place in the scientific world.

In his speech, Özer used the expressions, "Milas is a great value not only for Turkey but also for the world with its rich historical heritage. It is the responsibility of all of us to protect this heritage and transfer it to future generations."

While the first day of the symposium continued with various academic presentations, the event will end with sessions to be held on September 6.
